The SAFA Overberg Regional Nedbank Cup Qualifying Tournament on Saturday 26 August 2017 in Gansbaai was the culmination of a 5 week tournament.
This will define a team from the Overberg region to qualify for the Provincial Nedbank Cup playoffs, which would hold a possible spot in the final round of 32.
After a very successful Nedbank Cup Draw held at the Caledon Casino late July, the SAB teams of SAFA Overberg emerged upon the beautiful coastal town of Gansbaai to fight their way to this aspiration.
The presence of SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan, added much value to an already amazing showpiece.
The Trophy Final was an epic affair between I&J Express FC and Solyx United FC.
It was a showpiece which enthralled the huge crowd of spectators that turned up for the day.
A circumspect start was expected, but as the match went on, the teams started to push their advantages.
I&J Express FC took the lead just before half time and enjoyed the half time break.
With only a few minutes left on the clock, Solyx United FC threw caution to the wind and were rewarded for their sustained attacks and equalized with a goal.
With the match drawn, the outcome would be decided upon by penalties.
Even this could not separate the teams and the intensity they showed, as it went to sudden death. I&J Express FC showing nerves of steel and winning 9-8 on penalties, and becoming the 2017 Nedbank Cup Qualifiers from the Overberg Region. They will represent the region in the Provincial Nedbank Playoffs, which will also be held in the Overberg, with Gansbaai being the town of choice.
