Stanford's Bay

Stanford's Bay › De Kelders › Western Cape › South Africa

Stanford’s Bay is a quiet suburb near Gansbaai that has panoramic views of Walker Bay. Directions to Stanford’s Bay lead you off the N2 from Cape Town, onto the R34 through Hermanus and the beautiful Overberg countryside. The area takes its name from Sir Robert Stanford who, after making his fortune as a soldier in the British Army, retired to the Western Cape and became a prominent landowner. He would use the seaside hamlet’s sheltered cove to offload supplies destined for his farm in Stanford.

Nowadays, Stanford’s Bay is popular with holidaymakers, beach-lovers and outdoor adventurers looking for things to do in Gansbaai. The picture-perfect Stanford’s Cove is hugged by an ancient milkwood forest that opens out onto a wide lush green lawn, perfect for picnics and beach activities. The sandy beach has an abundance of rock pools and enough safe swimming and diving areas to keep the whole family happy.

This beautiful stretch of coastline includes a well-maintained hiking trail that leads from Gansbaai to Walker Bay Nature Reserve.

If owning your own piece of paradise at the coast is on the cards, give one of the local Gansbaai estate agents a call to arrange a guided tour of the houses and apartments that are on the market. There are shops, schools and restaurants in Gansbaai which is a five-minute drive away. Whether you want to trade city living for a laid-back coastal lifestyle or need a lock-up-and-go apartment to use as a home-base for those memorable weekend getaways, Stanford’s Cove is just the place you have been dreaming of.
