Pearly Beach Ratepayers

Notes of a Public Meeting 30 August 2024

On Thursday, 30 August 2024, a public meeting was held at 15h30 at the Angling Club in Pearly Beach. The meeting, led by Chairperson Shirley Coetzee, began with a prayer.

Key Highlights:

• Cllr Steven Fourie addressed the meeting, informing attendees about the open IDP wish list for new project suggestions in the village. Suggestions can be emailed to Shirley Coetzee, and they will be considered at the September Ward Committee meeting.

• Cllr Fourie also encouraged residents to use the upgraded Citizen Collaborator App for queries and complaints, which provides a reference number and ensures follow-up by municipal departments. Additionally, he invited those interested to join the Ward 11 WhatsApp group monitored by the Mayor and Ward Councillor. For inclusion, provide your cell phone number to Cllr Fourie.

• There was clarification on the Provincial Disaster Management Fund claims circulating on social media. Cllr Fourie explained that while no large funds were received, declaring a disaster allows internal reallocation of funds for urgent projects.

• Alderman Dudley Coetzee provided an update on the electricity situation, including the new capacity supply charge. He detailed the revised tariffs for pre-paid meters with options for 30, 40, 50, or 60 amps. The basic monthly charge has decreased by 7.7% to R536.02. Consumers with credit meters must switch to pre-paid meters to apply for a lower amp supply. Indigent Grant recipients are automatically on a 30 Amp supply.

Questions from Attendees:

• Electricity Draw: An electrician can assess your household’s maximum draw and advise on necessary amps.
• Water Supply: The clear water dam is 80% full, and the brown water dam is 100% full. The filtration plant upgrade now allows clear water to be sourced from the brown water dam.

The meeting concluded at 16h34.
